A dental crown is a natural-looking tooth replacement.

Dental crowns and bridges can do the following:

  • Whiten your teeth
  • Reshape your teeth
  • Realign your teeth
  • Repair your teeth

They can also protect a heavily filled tooth or a tooth that has had previous root canal treatment.

A porcelain crown is formed as a protective and strong surface for your tooth. A crown will help restore your tooth to its original shape and size while helping to keep your jaw and bite in proper alignment.

How long does it take?

A dental crown treatment will likely take two appointments. The initial appointment prepares the tooth by removing any decay and/or rough or broken-down edges, ensuring a supportive foundation. Then, an impression will be taken to be used for fabricating your new crown.

The dentist will then place a temporary crown to allow for aesthetics and function while you await your new crown. Your final appointment will take place two weeks later, where your dentist will remove the temporary crown and place your new permanent crown.

What is a dental bridge?

There are several types of bridges. You and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case.

The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused with metal.

This type of bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
